iPesa Loan – review 2026
Pros
- Fully digital, Android-based application process
- Loan limits can increase for borrowers with a good repayment track record
- No collateral or physical documentation required
- Licensed and supervised as a Digital Credit Provider under CBK rules
Cons
- Loan amounts are capped at a relatively modest ceiling
- Short-tenor digital credit carries a higher effective cost than bank loans
- Requires an Android smartphone and active M-Pesa line
iPesa is an Android-based mobile lending application offering instant unsecured loans to Kenyan borrowers, registered as a digital credit provider (DCP) under the Central Bank of Kenya's Digital Credit Providers Regulations, 2022. As a DCP, iPesa is licensed to extend credit but, unlike a bank, does not accept customer deposits or offer savings products.
Loan amounts on iPesa typically range from about KES 600 to KES 50,000, with eligibility and the limit offered based on the applicant's M-Pesa transaction history and smartphone usage data analysed through the app's credit-scoring model. Approved loans are disbursed directly to the borrower's M-Pesa account, usually within a short time of approval.
Fees and Eligibility
As with other CBK-licensed digital lenders, iPesa is required to disclose the full cost of credit before a loan is accepted. Borrowers who repay on time typically see their available loan limit increase over subsequent applications, while late or missed repayments can restrict access to future credit on the platform.
