M-Pesa Fuliza – review 2026

4,4 / 5

Fuliza is Safaricom's M-Pesa overdraft facility that allows registered users to complete M-Pesa transactions even when their wallet balance is insufficient. The product is underwritten by KCB Bank and NCBA Bank and is automatically enabled for eligible M-Pesa customers. Fuliza charges a daily maintenance fee on the outstanding overdraft balance.

Pros

  • Automatically available to eligible M-Pesa users without a separate application
  • Enables transactions to proceed even with zero M-Pesa balance
  • Repayment is automatic upon receipt of funds
  • Backed by two CBK-regulated banks (KCB and NCBA)
  • Largest reach of any mobile credit product in Kenya

Cons

  • Daily fee structure makes it expensive if not repaid quickly
  • Overdraft limit is determined by Safaricom algorithm with no user appeal process
  • Overuse can result in limit reduction
  • Late repayment negatively affects M-Pesa usage and can lead to CRB listing
  • Not suitable as a substitute for conventional loans due to cost

Requirements

  • Active M-Pesa account registered for at least 6 months
  • Kenyan national ID
  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Active M-Pesa usage history as assessed by Safaricom
  • No outstanding defaults on Fuliza balance
